What’s a midi?

a midi is a file format for music. It stores each note of a song as a set of numbers, denoting the note’s size, instrument, placement, pitch, etc. unlike the midi, most audio file formats store their data as one compressed soundwave. these formats are essentially only limited by the size of the file in what they can do. the Midi, however, can only use a limited number of prerecorded instruments, stored in a ‘Soundfont’ file (If you listen to a few of these songs, you might notice some common instruments). So, why would anyone use midi? well, number 1, it’s FAR more space efficient. Midis are just sets of numbers, and computers are great at storing numbers. this is why many old games like Mario 64 or DooM use Midi or Midi like formats. But why I use midi? Well, uh… why not! what are you, the cops!
